Islay Cultural Database

The Islay Cultural Database was created and is being populated by Roger McWee to help to understand the complex history of Islay 'Peoples' and 'Places' after the archaeological excavations at Loch Finlaggan under the directorship of Doctor David Caldwell. Much appreciation is given to the many descendants who contribute Family History which like no other source fills in the gaps and makes the Database more relevant.

The sources are all embracing from Parish records to ancient manuscripts and is also enhanced by the inclusion of the information from the Islay Graveyard Survey, carried out by Roger McWee and Nigel Ruckley.

Vast amounts of contributions from descendants makes this Cultural Database a unique and primary source for all who wish to find out about their ancestors and where they lived on Islay.

The Cultural Database is an ongoing and live enterprise which is continually being updated and improved and visitors to the site are encouraged to submit comments or data to help with its development. The Finlaggan Trust is a charity and the money taken from this site goes towards the running and development of the Visitors Centre at Loch Finlaggan.
